Oysters, Love and Art is MSG’s Winter Show

In January and February Main Street Gallery will be busy! For starters, the Cambridge artist coop will be showing their member’s work in a show called  Oysters, Love and Art. Inspired by the Ice and Oyster Festival and Valentine’s Day, the seven members of the coop will be devoting a portion of the Gallery to artwork about all things love and oysters. Gallery director, Linda Starling says both she and the other artists are excited about the upcoming show. “Our artists are a very creative mix of painters, sculptors, mosaic artists, jewelers, printmakers and ceramicists” she says. I’m looking forward to a rich, varied and fun exhibit as artists interpret the theme in their own unique ways”.

In addition to the exhibit, the Gallery will host a champagne reception during the Ice and Oyster Festival on January 17 from 4-7pm. The reception will be free and open to the public.

“And since learning something creative and new is the best way to banish the winter blahs,” says Linda, “the Gallery will be offering several  art making workshops for adults and teens in January.” Workshop leaders include noted artist, Chris Carter who will be doing 6 separate  workshops on color and design on January 9,10 and 11 and well-known Cambridge artist, Tammy Vitale who will lead a workshop on journal making on January 19 from 1-4.   “The gift of a workshop or two would make a wonderful holiday present!” says Linda.  Please check the Gallery’s Facebook page @Main Street Gallery or their website @mainstgallery.net for further details.

To top off the Gallery’s many winter activities, there will be a special Second Saturday Valentine’s Day reception, as Valentine’s Day falls on Second Saturday. Look for details on the Gallery’s website or Facebook page in February.

Oysters, Love and Art will open at the Gallery at 518 Poplar St. in Cambridge on Friday, January 2. The show will run through Sunday, March 1. There will be two artist receptions on Second Saturdays January 17 and February 14 from 5-8 pm. The receptions are free and all are invited. Light refreshments will be served.

Main Street Gallery’s winter hours will begin in January and the Gallery will be open Fridays through Sundays from 11-4. Online shopping is always available at mainstgallery.net. The gallery, located in Cambridge’s thriving arts and entertainment district, is the city’s only artist owned and operated cooperative and has been downtown for over 14 years. The gallery is currently reviewing work by prospective members and guest artists.
